Why I Fell Out of Love With Lipstick.

Oh, lipstick. Once upon a you would always be at the top of my wish list for birthdays and christmases but now you’re pushed the back of my vanity with barely a thought. What went wrong? I feel like I have the same reasoning for pretty much every single thing in my life (if you hate read me as I know a couple of people do then ha here you go) I became a mum. I’m not even sure that I can justify myself in saying that that’s the real reason but it definitely was the final straw.

I think that the thing that began the drastic spiral into boycotting lipstick was that liquid lipsticks became so popular (If i wear anything on my lips it will always be a liquidย lipstick HAIII). Initially I actually was rather dubious and i think I put off buying one for a good few months after they released and even then it was a liquid lipstick from revolution for a pound (biggest regret, it smelt and felt like putting industrial paint on my lip which put me off for a while longer). When I could finally face buying one (I actually pushed the boat right out and bought 2) I found that I enjoyed the experience so much more. My second liquid lipsticks were the bourjois velvet lipstick. Although they weren’t transferproof and more of a cream that a liquid lipstick the pigment, long lastingness and durability spoke to my soul and I have never looked back.

So here is my list of reasons why I fell out of love with lipsticks.

  • Have you ever tried kissing a child, partner, animal or literally anything with lipstick. You end up with an odd lipstick to no lipstick ombre lip and the other person is branded with whatever cheery colour you decided to wear.
  • Lipsticks aren’t ever as pigmented so you can’t wear brighter colours. I have a couple of bright colours but they always end up as dull sloppy smears.
  • I hate the feeling when lipstick slides over your lips it makes me cringe so hard, especially when it bunches up in the corners and feels like crayons on your mouth (not that I know what Crayons taste like but you understand me).
  • I feel like with liquid lipsticks you get a lot more for your money. I have never emptied a liquid lipstick but I have had to awkwardly scrape the bottom of lipsticks out of their containers, even going so far as to melt them and reput them in pots.
  • Lipstick on teeth, I’ll say no more
  • When you accidently put the lid on a lipstick when you hadn’t put the lipstick fully down and the end resembles a felt tip that a child has smashed into the paper.

As much as I am slating them, I am always open to having my mind changed so if you can recommend your faves, I will deffo be open to trying new ones.

My Summer Foundation Routine.

Hello my Lovelies,

Okay so back in the day when I first got into makeup and thought that the most flattering look was when your eyelashes looked like spiders legs and foundation was supposed to cover your lips, probably in like 2010, I had next to no idea about different makeup for different times of the year. I pretty much had exactly the same makeup all year round which included my OG Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse in the shade 4 (exactly 3 shades to dark plz don’t hate my guys).

Luckily since then I have learned thanks to trial and error and the wonderfulness of the internet and have since learned a hell of a lot. There are so many different ways to apply for different seasons and now that summer’s fast approaching I thought I’d let you know how I apply and set my base.

Ok so first thing first priming the face. I actually use two different primers during the summer as it’s usually quite hot and I have combination skin. I use the Urban Decay Pore Perfecting complexion Primer potion for the entirety of my face from the eyebrows down and for my forehead I use the Nivea Post shave balm as I don’t really want to be using a moisturizer all over my face before priming with my combination skin and in the summer it works just right.

Lightweight Foundations are a must during Summer and I find that all of my makeup becomes lighter for the hot seasons. My favourite lightweight and day to day foundation is actually the L’Oreal True Match Foundation in the colour Golden Ivory. It’s a water based foundation with a really nice texture and coverage which works well for my skin type. Another thing about this foundation is the broad range of shades, I believe there is a massive range which range from extremely light to extremely dark which is great from a drug store brand. Another way to even out skin tone is BB and CC creams which usually work as they are more lightweight in texture. They’re not Foundations but are created to even out skin tone and give a cleaner look. A CC Cream that I enjoy is actually the Sleek CC Cream in the colour Fair which actually is SPF 29 so even better for summer. It’s not water based and feels quite thick when taking the product out of the tube but when it’s blended into the skin becomes lightweight and glowy.

A lot of High end products specialise in being full coverage, the majority of my full coverage makeup is high end and my lighter coverage is mostly drugstore so it’s not a surprise when I whack out another drugstore product for my concealer. This is actually a repurchase as I like it so much and it is the Revlon Colorstay concealer in 01 Fair. It is a really great buildable concealer which does a great job at blending out on the skin. It is a buildable concealer and another way I like to build it but not make it cakey is use the Nyx under eye colour corrector setting it with a translucent powder or finely milled powder and applying a light layer of this.

I actually mentioned this next product in the Concealer section but Powders is next. Now powder doesn’t seem that important but it’s actually up there with the most essential stages, by setting your face it stops it from moving around in the heat. I actually work in an indoor childrens play area and used to wear foundation on it’s own and it dripped down my face on the hot days. I like light powders and am going to mention the OG of all powders which is the rimmel Powder in 005 Silky Beige. I have repurchased this probably 7 or 8 times since I was at the beginning of high school many moons ago. It’s not the lightest of powders but it does it’s jobs. Another powder is the Seventeen Define and Conquer Contour Kit the powder is so so light in it and bronzer also. I’m not getting into bronzing in this post but if I was I would recommend this duo.

Setting sprays

Finally we reach the last category in this post and actually the last point. It is setting sprays. Now I actually currently own one setting spray as I am not overly bothered about them, but when I do run out I do always try a different brand. Currently I am on the final dregs of my Nyx Setting spray which is actually a repurchase (sure me, I’m a walking contradiction.) I also like to finish off my looks with the Elf Mineral mist. It’s so so refreshing and just gives you just a bit of moisture.

Okay well I hope that you have enjoyed this post and would love to hear different products that you use in Summer.

Panning Products: 2017 Introduction.

Hi guys,

In this first video in a number, i have decided that I am going to try and be less wasteful with my makeup. I am currently on a no-buy until further notice and also am going to try and use up makeup that would otherwise sit at the back of my vanity.

I have decided to choose a number of products including from Nyx, Seventeen, Laura Mercier and the balm and am going to try and use them to the point of hitting pan. If you are interested in how this works then click the link below.

Nyx and Urban Decay Mini Haul.

Evening guys,

I will be the first to say that I have a problem with buying makeup but it is so difficult not to when there are so many beautiful beautiful products around. At the moment I have convinced myself that this mini haul is going to be a positive because my new years resolution is to become both more confident with my makeup and with myself. I want to try new things with new colours so decided to have a little splurge to motivate myself.

The first products that I got are the NYX eye shadows in the colours Own The Night, Coquette, Galactique and LOL. The colour that I was initially drawn to is LOL which is a beautiful Orange colour that ย goes so nicely with blue eyes.

Next I got some NYX vivid bright eyeliners in the colours Vivid Blossom, Vivid Envy and Vivid Delight. The reason that I bought these were because I already own one of the vivid Brights in the colour Vivid Violet which I love love love love. I also bought a Matte liquid liner because I’m currently using the Bobbi Brown gel liner and I’m not sure what I think about it yet. (watch out for a review soon).

I also bought the famous NYX blush in the colour Tope purely because so so many people have absolutely raved about it and I feel like it would be a great colour to contour my nose with. So many contour colours are far too orange toned for me and make me look like a clown whenever I try but I have a horrible nose so it has to be done.

Finally I decided to go to Urban Decay as I knew that they had a new years sale on and i got a angled brush for half price and a Urban Decay Perversion Lashes mascara.

What are your favourite products from NYX. Let me know?
